System Requirements

Hardware & Software

Below are the recommended hardware and software configurations for implementing a Laserfiche system. To learn more read the white paper titled, "Laserfiche Hardware Planning and Specifications".

Laserfiche Server 9 Recommended Configuration

Operating System: Windows Server 2008 R2 or above

CPU: 2.8 GHz or faster, Dual Core processor
64-Bit
Memory: 8 to12 GB RAM

40 Gig storage available for operating system (Assumes image storage on SAN)
Database engine: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or above

Also Needs Installed:

  • Internet Explorer 9 or above
  • IIS Component 7.0 - for Web Services
  • Microsoft .Net 3.5
  • Microsoft Message Queuing component – for Workflow, Web Access and Audit Trail

SQLServer 9 Recommended Configuration

Operating System: Windows Server 2008 R2 or above
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise
CPU: 2.8 GHz or faster, Dual Core processor
64-Bit
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Installed on SQL Server:

  • SQL Server (Standard or Enterprise, depending on system purchase)
  • SQL Management Studio 2008

Image / File Disc Requirements

Recommended to be a SAN; Disk space requirements depend on amount of images and data to be stored, needs to be on the same network as the Laserfiche server. 200 Gig (Estimate Only)

Laserfiche Client for Scanning with Quickfields Recommended Configuration

Windows 7 operating environment (Less desirable is Vista or XP w/SP3)
CPU: 2.4 GHz or faster processor, 64 Bit
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Pre-installed with:

  • Microsoft .Net 3.5
  • Internet Explorer 9.0 or above

Laserfiche Client for Web Access or Client Search/Retrieval Recommended Configuration

Windows 7 operating environment (Less desirable is Vista or XP w/SP3)
CPU: 2.4 GHz or faster processor, 32 or 64 Bit
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Pre-installed with:

  • Microsoft .Net 3.5
  • Internet Explorer 9.0 or above

It's important to understand that Laserfiche server software, Laserfiche Workflow server, SQL server software, and Laserfiche Web server software can all be installed on the same physical piece of hardware, or each can reside on a separate physical piece of hardware, or any pairings of installations and hardware will also be fine.  eDocsAlaska recommends that SQL run on a seperate physical box. All servers may also reside on a single machine within a virtualized environment. It is best practice to install the Weblink module on a separate sever within the DMZ.

The most important thing to consider when planning the configuration for acceptable performance is what processor type/speed and RAM is available to each application within that hardware environment, so that they application does not compete against another for system resources.

Network Requirements:

The speed of opening and saving documents within Laserfiche is affected by several factors which include document size (number of pages, especially color pages), and number of users sharing bandwidth on the network.  When bandwidth is inadequate across a network, overall Laserfiche system performance can be compromised.

If possible, a one Gbps (gigabit) connection is recommended between the Laserfiche server and any other server hardware (including the SQL server and web server if these applications are hosted on a different box than Laserfiche) within the network.  This speed connection is also highly recommended for any workstation that will be actively scanning documents into the repository.  A 100 Mbps (megabit) connection is recommended for workstations connecting to Laserfiche for search and retrieval purposes.

MAC Workstation Requirements:

Any Macintosh computers that will require an install of LF client must have either Bootcamp or Fusion and Windows software loaded onto them and configured to emulate a Windows operating environment.  Macs that will access Laserfiche via their web browser using Laserfiche's Web Distribution product must have Safari version 1.2.4 or greater, or Firefox version 1.0 or greater.
